Then the bad publicity generated from charity workers trading sexual favours for food, as was exposed in Haitti. I would sadly have to think this is not unique, But the help still has to get throughh somehow, even recognising there will be rip offs and it is a numbers game.
But one thing I really wish is that the promo people smarten up and tone down their T.V. ads.
When I am sitting in my comfy chair relaxing and a picture comes up with poor little childfren in dire straights, crying and ribs sticking out, I can not handle the visual. Or a poor anilmal almost dead with leg snagged in a trap. I change the channel as quickly as possible,. -- so I never see their ads or hear their pitch.-----
I would say to the producers of the ads most people who strongly care about these awfull issues would likely do the same. These are the people that should be their primary target and they are shutting them out of
thier campaign.
Several years ago I responded to an ad from a well known organisation. They sent me a kit and I filled out the form for monthly debits. One of the questions was, "want to sponsor a boy or a girl" Well I really did not care but checked the box for boy. They then sent me a picture of the girlI I would be sponsoring.
But thats O.K. However my intention was for the money to go to feeding starving little kids and she looked older than I had anticipated. But she has to eat also so I let it go. Every year I was to receive a picture showing her progress and a llittle note, which I did. But then one year the picture was the same one they sent the previous year, showing her holding a ball up in the air. Maybe she did not make any progress that year, but she was still holding that ball uo in the air.
She was to be starting in a senior school now, burt my priority was food, not education, so I switched to another organisation.
Anyone that reads this blog will not be surprised to know my favourite charrity is in Thailand. The country I should have emigrated to instead of heading West. About 10 years ago I came across "Pattaya Street Kids" which was a charity registered in England The funds go towards running an orphaniage in Pattaya (My second home) I was priviledged to be taken on a tour of the facility on a visit a few years ago.. It was so heart warming to see all these Thai kids running around with big smiles on their faces. They also run a food program, delivering food to the slum areas (the areas not shown to tourists)
Sadly the guy that ran the English branch died so it was wound down. The programme in Pattaya is operated by Mercy Pattaya. Payments can be monthly debit or individual payments by PayPal.. You can direct the funds for use of the orphanage, food delivery or sponsoring.. .............. Make a Thai kid happy.
