What a security nightmare this must be for the French Government. But President Hollande has surprised many with the World leadership role he has adopted following the U.S. withdrawing from this long held position.
It will certainly be difficult to have all Countries make an equal commitment to get serious about the problem.
One of the leading proponents is of course the President on the U.SA. It would be helpful if they could set some kind of an example for the rest of us to follow. He has already made some heavy commitments for the States, supported by crippling restrictions on the coal and oil industry.
Perhaps he should give more consideration to his own actions regarding his carbon footprint. Sure with his huge entourage he has to fly around in a Jumbo Jet, but do he and his wife really need two of the suckers to take the same trip?
Earlier in the year he and the First Lady flew from Washington D.C. right across the country to L.A. on the same day with a jumbo jet each. I believe he was attending a fund raiser. When questioned about this it was pointed out his wife had to stop in Dallas on the way back to do some shopping. I hope she got some good deals as this would cost the American taxpayers thousands of wasted dollars in fuel and operating costs before even thinking about the implications on the environment.
One of the first major figures to voice concern about this issue was U.S. President wannabee Al Gore. During the last several years he has flown around the World in his huge private jet campaigning for a reduction on emissions. While doing so he has likely planted about the biggest carbon foot print of anyone.
Now we see pictures of him arriving at this conference from the States, as he exits from his fuel guzzling jet with only his wife for an extra passenger. Several years ago in many big cities we where encouraged to car pool to reduce traffic and emissions. Some cities even provided dedicated lanes for cars with more than two passengers. Maybe its time these guys considered plane pooling. How about it Mr.President ? Could you not find space in Air Force 1 for your compatriot Al Gore and his missus.
I guess what it come down to is the old adage "Do what I say not what I do" So I am off out on my bike now to burn off a few calories while doing my part to save the planet.
