Then of course the problems began. Started with a slight limp when first getting up, then got a little more severe. After a few days it was obvious he was in bad pain, so off we went to the vet. The vet we saw was a young lady, very pleasant and she brought in a specialist for a second opinion. We were then sent off with 10 days of medication (Onsior) anti inflammatory and told come back next week. But after two days his condition got much worse. My friend had a good experience with a vet that comes to your home, so we called him in for another opinion. He gave Monty a much more thorough examination and concluded he really needed an operation on the problem leg.
But in the meantime he O.K.d giving him some paracetamol, for faster relief as Onsior takes a few days to be effective. So I am hoping tomorrow to see some improvement, as we await the op. It looks like I am into £1,000, plus. How much was that insurance ? Could have - would have - should have..
(Next Day)
There again it is not just a cost factor. I heard today of dogs that experienced no improvement after a procedure. I love the little guy so much it is heart wrenching to see him right now. I am not sure what to do.
Just e mailed the vet, ask him to drop by for a heart to heart. Still obviously in pain...
( 2 days later ) The hurt goes on.... Vet coming in tomorrow to see him and maybe give stronger pain killer. Should have information on date of op.
( 3 days later ) Vet came in. Monty's leg swelling up. Says might be an infection so gave antibiotics plus stronger pain killers. Lets hope he gets some relief now.
Later.
On Oct 11 2018 I lost me dear friend.
My poor little guy was in so much pain. Had to help him out to the toilet with a towel under his middle to take some of the weight. I am disgusted at the treatment he received and conflicting diagnosis.
I called the guy that was supposed to do the operation, to find out when, telling his receptionist it was urgent as he was in bad pain. She promised she would have him call me as soon as he finished with a patient. 5 hrs later I called again only to be told he had left for the day. Monty ain,t going under that guys knife, if that is all he cares. It was a good job anyway as apparently the operation would have done nothing to help.
In despair next day I took him back to his regular vet and this time a more experienced vet saw him. Right away he looked at the swollen leg and said this does not look good, we have to do tests. A few hours later he called me with the bad news. As he suspected Monty had a tumour. He said they could try and remove it but given his age and being a big dog the prognosis does not look good., concluding if Monty was his dog he would not put him through that. I had no choice, I had seen him suffer enough already.
So I grabbed some cheese treats and headed over to say my goodbyes. They gave me a private room to spend a few minutes with him. Gave him his treats and a few hugs
