But for U.S.A. and most of Europe, anxious times await. Here in the U.K. Boris Johnson's brush with death, may change his views on ending the lockdown too soon. With his telephone call with Trump today, I am sure he will have tried to impress on the President the gravity of the illness, having himself been there. But Trump is so hung up on the economic climate and it's influence on his re-election aspirations, he may well forge ahead with his reckless objective to open up the Country quickly. This could have catastrophic consequences. They may not even be in a position to hold the election in Novevember. Unlike S.Korea, recently the first country after the outbreak to hold an election, with record turn out and an impressive majority for President Moon, reflecting their gratitude for his excellent leadership in handling the virus.
I believe most of us U.K. residents will still be apprehensive and as restrictions are eased, will still adopt distancing when possible. But we can not stay at home for ever and the economy has to take some tentative steps to mobilize.
When you see an old movie on T.V. and people smoking in cafes, on the bus or train, even in theatres and planes (sorry, back rows only) it seems unreal. But at the time it was normal and accepted. Now you see something from last year, with everyone packed together in bars, stores etc. they look so crowded, it does not look healthy. But we have to get over this, if we want to participate in the events we used to enjoy.
It will be helpfull if they come up with treatment of some kind, but until a vaccine is available, we will not let our guard down. As in other parts of the World trials start in Oxford on Thursday to test a virus. But even when proven to be safe and effective, how long will it take to produce the millions of tests required.
I am hoping they will give priority to us oldies. I was due to go down to Thailand this Sunday and had concerns my health could dictate otherwise. I should have been more worried about the World's health. This is very disapppointing. I have had such great times there as described in my posts, scroll right, thru archives to Apr 2018-- March 2013--May 2014. ++ then book your ticket for next year.
